Help Us Give Every Peninsula School District Senior a Safe, fun, Unforgettable
 Graduation Celebration

Graduation is a milestone our seniors will remember for the rest of their lives! This moment represents 13 years of hard work, resilience, and growth. They deserve a celebration that is joyful, memorable and safe.

Nationally, graduation season is one of the highest-risk times of year for teen alcohol-related accidents. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, motor vehicle crashes remain a leading cause of death for teens, and studies show teen crash risk increases during prom and graduation season.

That’s why our local nonprofit organization (501(c)(3) status), Gig Harbor High School Parent Committee, wants to host a party for students to celebrate safely together while making lifelong memories.

We are requesting donations through local businesses, organizations, and community members. If you know of any potential donors, please let us know: ghgradnightparty@gmail.com
What if my family cannot afford to pay anything but my graduating senior wants to attend the party?
Please reach out to us, we know of donors willing to sponsor graduates so they can attend the party! ghgradnightparty@gmail.com
Why is the party on the same day as graduation? Won’t families be celebrating, including with extended family?
Hosting a graduation party the night of their big day is very common. This is their last night together before they go their separate ways. The 9pm starting time allows families to celebrate with their child and give them a time to celebrate with their friends. Since lots of businesses shut down by 9-10pm in Gig Harbor, there aren’t a lot of options for celebrating out on the town. This party allows for that. PenMet Parks graciously agreed to serve as the venue for this party and stay open until 2am. Our goal is to keep our youth safe while giving them a joyful, memorable send-off.
Why does it go so late?
This is a special occasion! Surprise them by saying “yes, of course you can go to that party with your friends to celebrate your graduation!” If you are concerned about them driving home that late, consider volunteering at the party 😊 Also keep in mind your graduate is not required to stay all night and this is a substance free event. Please practice extra caution while driving since this event ends at 2am. Talk to your teens about intoxicated drivers and how to stay safe and aware, or consider dropping them off and picking them up.
What activities will take place at the party?
This event will provide:

food, snacks, and treats
Mocktails / other drinks
A live DJ
Photobooth
Casino-style games
Karaoke
Trivia
Senior Slideshow
Raffles and prizes
Foosball
Ping-Pong
Air Hockey
Open gym games (think pickleball, basketball, volleyball)

and hopefully more as funds allow!

We are open to adding any other great ideas our seniors can come up with to make this a night to remember!
Will the event be supervised?
Yes! PenMet will provide employees, but we will also need some parent volunteers to help run the event. This is another way we are able to keep the cost of the evening down. We need help with serving food, dealing cards, checking in students for the event, and just making sure everything is running smoothly while they celebrate.
Is this party open to other Gig Harbor-based graduating seniors who attend other schools besides GHHS?
Yes! This event is open to all graduating seniors in the district as well as local seniors who attend charter schools or private schools and have close friends in the Peninsula School District. Our goal is to create an inclusive party for the graduating kids in our community and allow friends to be able to celebrate together!
Why isn’t the school sponsoring this event?
Since the these students will already have graduated, the school no longer has liability over them and this party cannot be sponsored by the school (like they can with a school dance).
Why did you start planning this party so late in the year? Why are parents only hearing about this now?
GHHS does not have a PTO, which makes it difficult to organize an event at this level without going through a for-profit grad night party company. The Parent Committee founders did not realize until mid-fall that no parents were working on a grad night party. It took them several months to commit and set up the nonprofit organization. We’re trying our best to make this party happen and get you the information you want!
Why did you choose the PenMet Rec Center?
Other grad night party companies (offering an overnight party going from 9pm to 6 am the next morning) are expensive and require extra transportation logistics. In past years the tickets cost over $200. The parties typically include two venues and require bus transportation to the first venue, from one venue to the other, and return transportation. The ticket price per student required by the grad night party company does not include transportation, which would be necessary to either fund through fundraising or through increased ticket prices.
What can I do to help?
Purchase a ticket for your graduate and reach out to ghgradnightparty@gmail.com. We have lots of needs and you can sign up for something based on your capacity to help out!
Will you help plan future grad night parties?
We set this organization up so that it is easier in the future for parents to organize a grad night party. One of the Parent Committee founders has 3 other children who will be graduating from GHHS over the next several years and will help out on those years. Because GHHS does not have a PTO/PTA, this newly formed organization will lay the groundwork for parents wanting to organize these events and getting started at the beginning of the year.
